Under construction

Friends, family, neighbors, and digital spies, I have something unique to share that’s pulled me out of the internet caves and onto your screen for the first time in years... Let’s dust off these virtual cobwebs a bit.

For the past 13 years, I’ve been making a serious effort, in and outside the classroom, to help people in our community build, expand, and share their life stories. That journey has led to an absolute honor and a blessing of an opportunity.

I've been selected as a 2025 Grosvenor Teacher Fellow - recognizing excellence in creating the next generation of explorers! This means I'll be a part of a professional development opportunity of a lifetime!

National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions have identified me (yes, little old me, a simple small-town mathematician) as a community leader helping shape the next generation of explorers. Educators apply from across the U.S. and Canada, and only a handful are selected as Grosvenor Teacher Fellows.

As Fellows, we serve as ambassadors for National Geographic’s education mission connecting local communities to human and natural systems around the world. At the heart of it all is building an explorer’s mindset.

I’m heading out on an expedition through the Arctic Circle aboard the National Geographic Endurance, a polar-class vessel breaking through sea ice as we explore Iceland and the East Coast of Greenland. Just an arm’s wave from Santa’s North Pole condo, and a region that’s both breathtakingly beautiful and geopolitically significant.

We’re talking glaciers, polar bears, waterfalls, arctic birds, and the stunning light of the Land of the Midnight Sun. (Which, by the way, would make an epic album title.)

In a powerful partnership, Lindblad Expeditions’ expertise in exploration paired with National Geographic’s relentless storytelling spirit, I’ve been given this opportunity to bring something back to my community.

I can’t wait to share it with all of you; friends, family, students, and yes, even you quiet digital souls out there looking for a little feel-good inspiration.
