THE ARTIC CIRCLe expedition
Icelands Wild West Coast to East Greenland
Iceland & Greenland
In the summer of 2025, I’ll be on expedition through the Arctic Circle; from Iceland’s wild west coast to East Greenland. Along the way, I’ll encounter polar bears, icebergs, glaciers, waterfalls, and a few Greenlandic locals, all in the spirit of bringing inspiration and growth to the classrooms and communities I support every day.
Explorers
Mindset
The world is changing rapidly, day by day, and even more so year to year. Preparing the next generation of humans must go beyond simply updating the list of topics students are expected to study. By cultivating an explorer’s mindset, students become equipped to thrive in a changing world. With the right attitudes, skills, and knowledge, they learn to see change as inspiration first, and a challenge second.
Expeditions & Inspiration
My students are deeply influenced by example. As a community leader and role model, I take that responsibility seriously. Each year, I push myself to travel, explore, and learn, and this expedition continues that journey. Its impact will live in my classroom, alongside lessons shaped by past travels, from Japan’s population studies to Borneo’s proboscis monkeys. This journey will help inspire the next generation of explorers to develop strong mathematical habits of mind.
Community
My goal is to inspire students to discover the connection between learning and joy. Many of my students are living stories of resilience, overcoming barriers, obstacles, and systemic challenges every day. By developing a healthy relationship with learning, they gain the tools to face new ideas, tasks, and setbacks with curiosity and confidence. And when that mindset begins playout beyond the classroom, it stems the beginnings of transformation, in families, in schools, and across entire communities.
