Unit One

Tools of Algebra

The study of Algebra was founded during the golden age of Arabic society and culture. This was a critical element in one of history’s greatest efforts to preserve, improve and diffuse the knowledge of cultures long since passed.  The Greek’s rigorous approach to logic had finally been summarized into the concrete and transferable methods of Algebra.  Several hundreds of years later, Isaac Newton borrows these methods to inform his discovery of Calculus.

The contemporary study of mathematics and science is built on using Algebra as a basis for many of the world’s most influential discoveries.  As you move forward to take part in this history of intellectual diffusion it is paramount that your skills in Algebra become a critical focus.
